Karakulam Krishi Bhavan Transformed into Smart Krishi Bhavan

The first Smart Krishi Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram district has been launched in Karakulam. The Smart Krishi Bhavan is a project initiated by the Agriculture Development and Farmers' Welfare Department to modernize Krishi Bhavans and provide accurate and timely services to farmers by utilizing advanced technologies.

The project was sanctioned for the Krishi Bhavans in Karakulam and Mangalore in the district for the financial year 2022-23. The Karakulam Krishi Bhavan, located in the Nedumangad constituency, was upgraded as part of a joint initiative between the Agriculture Department and Karakulam Grama Panchayat. Notably, the first Krishi Bhavan system in Kerala was also launched in Karakulam Panchayat.

The Smart Krishi Bhavan was made possible through an investment of ₹12.5 lakh from the Karakulam Grama Panchayat's Janakeeya Asoothranam project, along with ₹25 lakh allocated by the Agriculture Department. These funds were used for technology development, infrastructure improvements, setting up a front office system, creating a crop management center, and carrying out repairs and renovation work. The construction was completed by the Karakulam Grama Panchayat Engineering Department, with procurement managed through Krishi Bhavan, ensuring the Smart Krishi Bhavan was completed on schedule.

Various services will be offered through the Smart Krishi Bhavan, including the complete digitization of agricultural services, the establishment of a paperless office system, the issuance of identity cards to farmers, the creation of a plant health clinic for crop management, and essential support for farmers through the Agro Pharmacy.
