The Ministry of Home Affairs has ranked Alathur Police Station in Palakkad district as the fifth-best in the country. Alathur secured this position out of 76 police stations featured in this year's final list, based on their performance. The Ministry of Home Affairs selected the top police stations based on several factors, including crime investigations, law and order management, infrastructure, police officer conduct, and facilities such as lock-ups and record rooms. Additional considerations included actions taken in cases of violence against women and children, progress in case investigations, resolution of complaints, officer behavior toward complainants, crime prevention measures, and other public welfare initiatives. In previous years, Kuttippuram in Malappuram district and Valapattanam in Kannur district also made it to the list of the country's top 10 police stations. Alathur Police Station has made significant strides by actively involving youth in anti-drug initiatives, establishing protection groups centered around schools, and taking the lead in these efforts. It has also gained recognition as a disability-friendly station, with special seating arrangements for the disabled and designated parking spaces for their vehicles. Additionally, Asha and Kudumbashree workers have raised awareness about women's safety. The station is well-organized, with all systems like the front office, PRO, and GD operating smoothly. It has a separate restroom for women and a feeding room for mothers. Criminals are closely monitored and warned at the right time to prevent further offenses. Summons are delivered promptly, and warrants are quickly executed, with the accused arrested without delay. Alathur Police Station has been recognized for its commitment to justice, effectively addressing public concerns, providing necessary guidance, ensuring severe penalties for crimes against women and children, and preventing future offenses. In the past year, Alathur Police registered 1,260 criminal cases, with charge sheets filed for all but the last 90. Investigations were completed on time for all cases, and approximately 300 issues were resolved through mediation. Janamaithri Police and Student Police contributed significantly, raising awareness in schools and among youth about drug abuse and cybercrimes, while also participating in rescue and relief efforts during natural disasters. Alathur Police Station is staffed by 52 officers, including 2 SIs and 2 ASIs, and serves an area of 40 kilometers, covering 5 panchayats and part of another.
