Marmala Stream: A Sustainable Green Tourism Destination

The Gram Panchayat has designated Marmala Stream, located in Teekoy Grama Panchayat, Kottayam, as a green tourism destination. As part of the ‘Malinyamuktha Navakeralam’ campaign by the Haritha Keralam Mission, Marmala Stream is among 30 selected eco-friendly tourist spots in the district. The area has been made 100% waste-free with the provision of essential amenities.Cascading from a height of approximately 40 meters, Marmala Stream is one of the tallest waterfalls in Kottayam district. Situated 10 kilometres from Erattupetta, it offers a serene escape into nature. Visitors can also enjoy a natural pool near the falls, perfect for swimming and bathing. The location is an excellent choice for adventure enthusiasts, as reaching the waterfall requires a one-kilometre trek along a narrow estate path.With the implementation of modern facilities such as electricity, bio-toilets, rest areas, a green check post, a security room, and surveillance cameras, the number of visitors is expected to rise significantly. To ensure cleanliness and safety, four dedicated employees, including security and cleaning staff, have been appointed to maintain the site.
